René BAARSLAG

Granada, Spain, 1996
German Spruce Soundboard, Cypress Back and Sides
Ebony fretboard with 650 string length
$ 3500

The Granada luthier Rene Baarslag, born in Heerlen, Holland in 1948, came to Granada to study flamenco, and became interested in Granada's guitar making scene. He apprenticed with Antonio Marin Montero, and also spent some time in Normandy working with Robert Bouchet.

This outstanding flamenco guitar bears resemblance to those of Santos Hernandez (1873-1942), one of this century's greatest guitar makers and Barslaag's model. At this price it is an unusually good buy.
